Sunday Brunch Club - Week 31

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I spent the weekend getting ahead on work, running some errands, and cleaning the house in preparation for my trip to New York. The crazy thing about traveling to the NY from LA is that the flight is the same as flying from NY to Europe 🤯. I had to buy lots of snacks to get me through that 6 hour flight. Thursday will definitely be a long travel day, but I’m so excited to get there! My weekend will be packed with so many fun things, including being a speaker on a women’s performance panel with PUMA and Runher magazine, hosting a shakeout run on Saturday morning, seeing friends and family who are coming out to cheer us on, and running my first ever marathon!
In exactly 1 week from today, I’ll be racing down the stress of NYC. Reflecting back on this build, it has somehow gone by so fast but also very slow. I’m really proud of the work I’ve put in, even if it wasn’t perfect. My A goal for race day is to break that 3 hour barrier, which I think is doable but I also know won’t be easy. No matter what, I know I’m going to feel so proud and accomplished when I cross that finish line. Thank you all for being with me on this journey! If you’d like to track me on race day, you can search name on the NYCM marathon app and follow along.
As a charity runner, I only have 1 week left to meet my fundraising goal of $4500! I’m running for Trackgirlz, an incredible non-profit organization that works to provide girls access to mentorship and sport through track and field empowerment programs. To help with my fundraising efforts, I’m partnering with Hettas, a shoe designed for women. For every $50 you donate, you get 1 entry to win a Race Day Package, which includes a free pair of Hettas shoes, a t-shirt, a race day fueling strategy session with me, and more fun items from brands who support women in sport. If you’re interested in donating to enter the giveaway, can do so HERE. Even if you’re not able to donate $50, I so appreciate donations of any amount! I have less than $700 to go!
In Today’s newsletter:
What’s for dinner? I’ve planned out your week in meals and snacks so you don’t have to! Check out my menu plan for the week, and some simple recipes to go with it.
Weekly tip: For October, I decided to try something new and switch from a weekly challenge to a weekly tip. This week with Halloween coming up, I wanted to share a few tips for navigating fueling during a holiday. Spoiler alert, candy can fit on a performance plate 😋.
Science corner: We’ve all heard of carb loading, but what does it mean exactly? This week we’re diving into the science behind it, if it can actually help you shave some time off your race, and how to execute a carb load in the days leading up to a big event!
Food for thought: Next week, Fueling Forward’s newest dietitian Alexa Gusman is giving a presentation titled “Your Body Is Your Teammate, Not Your Competition”. This concept had me reflecting on how common it is for us to fight our body instead of work with it, and I wanted to talk about the many times I was tempted to do this during my marathon build.
