Someone Else's Success Is Not Your Failure

Sunday Brunch Club - Week 51

Happy Sunday! I hope you’re having a great weekend. This week, Nick and I decided to get all of our household chores done Wednesday and Thursday and even though it was tiring to do that after work, I have to say it has been so nice to be able to just relax this weekend. I say that, but I tend to get antsy after a couple of hours trying to relax 😅. I’m working on soaking up those days though because I know they will be limited once the baby comes!

We also had a heat wave move through LA this weekend so it has been in the 90’s, which I’m definitely not ready for. As I’ve mentioned before, our dog (a bernedoodle) is not a fan of the heat so most of our walks consist of laying in someone’s shady front yard. I’m certainly not complaining! I noticed I was feeling quite a bit more tired this week, and while I was tempted to push through and run anyway I decided to listen to my body and give in to the feeling that I needed to rest more. So if you can relate to struggling to allow yourself to rest, just a reminder that it doesn’t make you lazy and you don’t need permission! Sometimes a couch potato weekend is just what you need.

In Today’s newsletter:

  • What’s for dinner? I’ve planned out your week in meals and snacks so you don’t have to! Check out my menu plan for the week, and some simple recipes to go with it.

  • Weekly tip: If you’re regularly heading out for runs without eating first, you might be making your workouts harder than they need to be. Even a small amount of fuel beforehand can make a big difference in your energy, performance, and recovery, and today, we’re talking about ways to avoid fasted training.

  • Science corner: If you’ve ever felt sore after a long run or tough workout, you’re not alone. This week, we’re diving into the science behind muscle soreness and the recovery strategies that actually help runners.

  • Food for thought: Last weekend, my former teammate Emma Bates was in town and I got to spend some time with her. She also recently announced that she’s pregnant, and we were talking about the culture of training while pregnant. I wanted to share my thoughts on the pros and cons of this changing narrative, and how I’m personally trying to navigate comparison.
