Sunday Brunch Club - Week 74

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I’m officially 6 weeks postpartum, which means I’m finally able to start working towards running again. I have my first pelvic floor PT appointment this upcoming week, and my goal is to make sure I’m doing everything I can to support strengthening and healing my core and pelvic floor before ramping up my training. I’m treating coming back from postpartum like I would coming back from an injury, so as hard as it is to be patient I’m trying to be smart and realistic about my timeline.
First, I want to make sure I’ve “rehabbed” my pelvic floor and core enough to set a foundation that I can start building off of without immediately experiencing setbacks. Then, I want to get back into more strength training and plyos to ensure my body can handle the load of running. Next I’ll start a walk/run protocol and work my way up to running consistently over the course of about 4 weeks. And finally, I’ll be able to build mileage then add intensity. It will be slow going, but I know my body has been through a lot this past year and will be more susceptible to injury, so I want to make sure I don’t rush anything or push myself too hard.
I have also officially started back up with 1:1 clients, so if you’re interested in working together you can always schedule a free exploratory Zoom call with me to learn more about what working together would look like, answer any questions you may have, and to see if we would be a good fit. I also offer team nutrition presentations, so if you’re a coach, parent, or athlete and think your team would benefit from a nutrition presentation for the upcoming fall season you can fill out an inquiry form!

Science corner: Ever wonder if there are specific foods you should be eating to support your menstrual cycle? Today, we’re covering what’s going on in our body throughout the menstrual cycle and some nutrition considerations to have a regular menstrual cycle.
Food for thought: This past week, just as I was starting to build up training, I came down with mastitis and had to take several days completely off. I wanted to share my thoughts on what I’ve learned about not training through injury or illness, and why it’s always worth it to rest rather than push through.
