Sunday Brunch Club - Week 53

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you all had a great week and are getting to enjoy a relaxing weekend. Sound Running’s The Ten was held out here near LA last night, so Nick and I drove down to watch. I always love being back at the track, and it was extra fun to get to see old running friends including some former Team Boss teammates. This meet always feels like the official beginning of outdoor track, and I can’t wait to have more meets to watch coming up this year!
The heat wave has let up a little bit out here, with this week being in the mid 80’s instead of the mid 90’s. Unfortunately that also has meant the air quality has been terrible, which always makes me feel extra tired. Instead of running this past week, I mostly went on walks and did indoor lifts at home. It looks like it might be that way for the foreseeable future, but luckily this week we’re heading to NYC for my brother-in-law’s wedding! I’m so excited to get out of town for a bit and to spend some time with family. It will probably be one of our last big trips for a while 😅.

Science corner: Sugar-free products are everywhere, but are they actually something you should choose over products with sugar? This week’s Science Corner breaks down what zero-sugar alternatives really do in your body and what runners should know.
Food for thought: You may have seen the brand UCAN pop up pretty frequently on social media this week after some controversy surrounding one of their sponsored athletes. If I’m being honest, as a dietitian I have never been a huge fan of UCAN and wanted to share my thoughts on some of their marketing tactics and the rhetoric they use to promote their products.
